Bringing Equity to Open Source
Like the natural world, open source projects thrive when resources are in balance. FairOSS works to ensure open source projects have the capital they need to succeed.
We work with organizations of all sizes to establish revenue and equity agreements that allocate a portion of their company value to the projects they rely on, and the projects they rely on, all the way down the tree. That’s what we call bringing equity to open source.
We do it by…
Creating opportunities for companies & projects.
We offer a recognizable brand trademark allowing companies to signal to the open source talent pool, their contributions to the communities that help make them successful. Through our Groundwater program we assist communities in allocating this value to their contributors and dependent projects.
Identifying the value of open source.
With our Groundwater Program, we work with organizations to understand what open source tools are important to them. Through this process we will take a key step in exposing a fair market value for open source projects.
Listening to our community.
Our mission won’t be successful without the community, it is essential to design and build the tooling for mapping the open source topology and tracking contribution. Charter members are key funders and advisors to the FairOSS mission and participate directly in important company discussions.
Being a key player in open data.
We work with leaders in open source and analytics every day. This gives us the ability to be a leading provider of data that can be used to understand project value, open source market shifts, and long term sustainability of open source ecosystems.
